In response to requests for a secure drugs collection box A&R Engineering Ltd, in conjunction with Essex Police, have developed the DC range of approved cabinets. The DC drug disposal cabinets are currently in use with the Essex Police as part of an overall crime reduction initiative. The drug deposit boxes are installed in numerous night clubs, pubs, bars and hotels throughout Essex in accordance with the Essex Police Code of Practice for the Handling of Controlled Substances within the Liquor Licensing and Public Entertainment Trade.
News of the cabinets’ success has spread fast and as a result they are now supplied throughout the UK with the full backing of Police Services and the introduction of other new initiatives in many Counties.

As can be seen, the cabinet is not only easy to use but also very secure. The unique swing counter balance door deposit system design facilitates a one way loading system which stops tampering and also means that employees of the premises are protected by not coming into contact with contents inside the cabinet. The front door has been fitted with a handy plastic sign holder for promoting latest news, initiatives and anti-drug campaigns etc. This cabinet is not designed for the disposal of needles or other sharps, however we do manufacture a sister product that has been developed in association with Health Enterprise East, part of the NHS. The following example shows how you would join and comply with the Essex Police Code of Practice for the Handling of
Controlled Substances within the Liquor Licensing and Public Entertainment Trade.
Contact your Local Licensing Officer who will explain the requirements to you. Then contact A & R Engineering Ltd to purchase a cabinet. You will receive a cabinet with full fitting instructions but without a key. The rights to the drug deposit box are then
transferred to the Police. The establishment then installs the cabinet on their premises (but not where the public have access) and informs the Police when the cabinet is secured on the wall. The Police will then visit the premises to lock the cabinet, thereafter the cabinet is ready for use. Once the drugs have been placed in the box they will be considered to be the property of Essex Police who will empty the box as arranged between you and your Local Licensing Officer.
Your Local Licensing Officer will be able to advise on any similar schemes operating within your area.
